    Default First Shave

Well, my set from Tony Miller finally arrived and I finished my first shave a few hours ago.

Overall, everything went great. The lather was a bit lacking, but I imagine with time it will get better. Though the lather wasn't as thick as I had hoped, it served my purposes adequately enough.

For my first shave, I'm relatively happy. The bottom left and right of my jaw gave me some trouble, but even those areas are shaved well enough for government work.

I gave myself a small nick on my neck, but the skyptic pencil stopped that from bleeding nearly immediately.

My first experience was quite enjoyable, and I look forward to the next chance I get to shave.

Also, just to possibly save myself a forum post, the set included a 2 oz. bottle of strop dressing. Should I worry about using this just yet or will that come later?

Thanks to anyone who answers my question, and thanks for the great shaving resources you've all provided me!

Hello, Acharne. Congratulations. Just stroll down to how to prepare a Tony strop in the Strops section of the forum. Should answer some questions.

    Congratulations Ross,
Just a quick warning. Be prepared for some irritation for at least the first couple of weeks. No matter how easy your transition to the straight is, it will take your face awhile to get used to it. A day off once in awhile or a less aggressive one-pass with the grain only shave will help, but only time will get your skin used to the substantial exfoliation that comes with straight razor shaving.

Welcome and don't worry about wasting a post to ask a question. There are a bunch of old timers that continually wander these boards just hoping to be of service

    Cheers,
    Ed

Well done, Ross. What do you say to that, eh? Try a little less water on the brush next time. Good to hear you're off on the right foot.
