    Something I have been looking into as a cheap(er) entry into the world of honing is honing film. There seems to be a general consensus on this forum and on others that this stuff is pretty good for honing and touch-ups. Here's a link to a great article i stumbled across about the stuff. Just another option if you don't feel like dropping $150+ for a couple of hones right off the bat...

    To add another option: search the forum for Glen and Lynn's thread on one stone honing. They mention it is also possible on a synthetic 8K. That way, you may be able to get by with just the Naniwa 8K and paste, and purchase the 12K later on if you feel like improving your edges.
