Thanked: 0Considering switching, did research, still have one big question
Hello, SRP. I've been considering switching to straight razors for some time and have done the due research (much of it here - kudos on the site and community) but one big question remains: how well can a straight razor handle a few days growth/a short beard? With my grooming habits, a primary SR benefit would that my beard wouldn't have to be trimmed pre-shave so I'd like to get some input on this before I commit to a razor and accessories.
Many thanks,
ctp

Welcome, welcome. Glad the site was so beneficial for you. I learn something new everyday and really enjoy the conversations here as well.
A straight razor will wipe a weeks growth off your face in one pass. I actually wait to shave 4-5 days sometimes just to enjoy the close shave that comes with a softer, longer beard. Lathering can be tricky with longer facial hair but proper beard preparation and a really rigorous lathering will do the trick. It's actually fun to watch the whiskers pile up on the blade all stuck in lather like a mini snow plow!
Hope that answers your question.I shave because I want to, not because I have to!

not only will it mow through it, the shave will also last longer so the growth will be shorter after a few days than that of other shaving instruments that dare not speak its name.

Long or short it easily handles it all. Just make sure you get a "shave ready" razor.
