A coticule, the blue can be useful but wait for HAD to set in before you go there.

If you have the disposable income a natural combination stone yellow/blue is the cat's whiskers. Two separate stones or a vintage glued combo is cool too but the natural combos have a bit of panache.

I hear he's very accomodating. I'd definitely opt for a Combo Stone.
Half Coti Half BBW....Selected Grade. Selected grade has a nice clean surface, no inclusions or veins, etc...

I'm hoping to go to the quarry myself one day soon (preferably on a day Bart is going as well ...)

As for a natural combo, selected grade, guys, this may indeed be the nec plus ultra but we're talking to a student on a limited budget here. And a non-selected, coticule only, will do the job as well ...

with natural combo do you mean cotcarb? because they are indeed a lot cheaper
and with the coticule from ardennes-coticule is there a slurry stone included?

No, different beast entirely, two layers of rock, naturally bonded so one side is BBW and the other, coticule. They're often very beautiful and generally much more expensive. As to the slurry stone, I don't know but drop them a line. By all accounts they're very forthcoming, if you specifically asked I'm sure they'd include one if they don't already, say what you want the stone for, too.

Koordenwinkel in A'pen hones for free so if you're not to far from them you can ask them to hone it...
But normally Honing should only be done once in a while...if you have a loomstrop and a leather strop you should be set for a while...
right?

If you have a pasted loom strop for upkeep, and you start with a sharp razor, you can keep it sharp near indefinitely.

If you are on a budget but want to hone your razor, the yellow coticule is a good choice, and Bart is definitely the man to contact. Personally I don't like it but that is just preference, not a limitation of the stone itself.

Blue is a different beast and probably not what you want if you are just starting out. A belgian combo stone is one with one side yellow and one side blue. there are combo stones that are just a yellow and blue glued together, but there are also combo stones that are fused together by nature because a yellow and blue layer happened to be alongside each other when they were compressed. Such stones are available but more expensive.
