Coming to Belgium and Germany on business
Just wondering if anyone can recommend an area or store to visit for cool, old straight razors in Brussels, Cologne or Darmstadt? I'm going to be in these areas on business next week and probably won't have a lot of time to explore on my own, so if you have any good tips for places to visit, I would really appreciate the advice! Thanks.

Thanked: 1371I don't know where they're at, but if I were ever to visit Belgium, I'd love to go see the coticule mines. Perhaps that's not too far out of the way on your trip?

Ha, I was thinking about that too! And I could pick up a few cool hones to bring back, right? I just don't have any idea how to get something like that set up, though, since I'm pretty much going to be either in meetings or stuck in the city. Anyway, great suggestion!

Thanked: 1371You could try contacting Bart at coticule.be to set something up...
I'm not sure if he does that or not, but it's worth a try...

Thanked: 1903Run those through Google Translate if required:
[Edit] Seems like you need to register first. Sorry for that.
Nothing overly exciting, and be prepared to see some unusual prices.

Actually, it is not close to brussels at all. If you want to go there it will cost you the day. Then again it is probably worth seeing if you are interested in the coticules, and the Ardennes are a very nice area for walking and sightseeing so it might be worthwhile going there to visit the mines and then go enjoy the scenery.

For straight razors in Brussels:
COUTELLERIE DU ROI
But I prefer this one in Antwerp (about 40-45 minutes by train):
De Messenwinkel / Oud huis De Koordenwinkel
As Bruno said, visiting the coticule mines would take you the day. Moreover it may be hard without renting a car.

Yeah please don't even try to get there by public transportation.
Because then you'll have to spend about a day just getting there.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Last night there was an interview of some geologist about these recent Iceland volcano dusts and flying restrictions. He said it might take something between few days to few years until the volcano will stop. That volcano really did stop the whole air traffic of Europe.
