You just ditch it and use a new one. :)

I am still in break-in process
For face lathering is good but i expect more
I am not so enthusiast although is the best Boar that i have.
I really like my Semogue, but, I had read that you had to be careful with them as the paint may chip. Well, I've been very, very careful and..............

It wasn't little chips. Just two big ole chips. The only thing I can think of is maybe the wood swells when I soak the brush? Anyway, this is what I now have.
Knock on wood, no problems with mine yet.
Same here, no problems yet with my 1350. Mind you I don't soak my brushes and don't use hot water.
Bob
I've soaked mine for 10 min before and have used both hot and cold with no issues. I believe the key is to always make sure the brush is hanging upside down when drying and to also be mindful of knocking the brush around.
That's what can happen to those spray on finishes. Temperature extremes can do them in. You often see that on cheap wood products made in China that look great when you get them but they don't wear well.
I suspect this is the issue. The spray on finish is strong but brittle. As a precaution, I added some superglue to mine, in the transition between the wood and the metal that holds the brush. Just a few drops and swirl it around, and I can rest assured I know it is sealed.
Of course, you could just entirely evade the problem..

I really like the look of the "Owners Club" brushes, I'd thought about getting one. But, geez, I really didn't want to have to join a club. I mean, with the yearly dues, meetings to have to make time to attend, and all the political back stabbing that often happens; too much hassle. Then, the next thing you know, I get elected to be a representative at some club convention somewhere and I get drunk and arrested for inciting a riot again. Nope, no more clubs for me.
In videos the employees of Semogue put a lot of glue
Maybe it's not a quality one.
Yes super glue can "delay" for some time the demarcation but can not last boiled water temperatures for long
When the time some a good epoxy will fix the problem permanently.
As for the finish in wood, a thin coat of Shellac is a very good solution.
So I picked up a 1305 since they are so cheap. It arrived yesterday. Wow. This is gonna be a different experience than what I'm used to. This thing is stiff, like a broom. I haven't used it yet but it seems to be full of backbone. A lot more than I expected.
I don't know if I'll ever trade boar for badger but I figured I should see what they are all about. Especially when the investment is so reasonable. And I've really never heard anyone say anything bad about them. So I must be missing out. Soon I'll give it a go and see what all the excitement was about.
Well it's more of a personal preference rather than one being better than the other. The price is certainly reasonable. I just have come to enjoy the feel and comfort of the boar better is all. I find it just as nice as a badger as far as comfort goes. Yes they are stiffer but, IMO not as broom like as some seem to perceive. They break in as stated over time and get softer with use. When they dry, they get rigid again however. Again to reiterate, just more of a personal preference. Enjoy.:chapeau
Ok, so I can report that I'm not a fan of boar or this brush. First, the brush is a little too small (no fault of the brush itself). And I think its not dense enough. If the bristles would have been any other material, this would be a floppy brush. I didn't care for the feel of it either. Preference, yes. But I obviously don't prefer it. It took all of the luxury out my shave routine today. Maybe it'll break in to be something more enjoyable but I don't think it'll see enough activity to get there. And like I've seen others report, the lather seemed to gather near the knot. I did not like this brush at all. On to something else.
Each has his own expectations of comfort level and performance. Sorry you did not like it.
Well OCDshaver - we meet again in agreement.
After my 5th shave with the Semogue 1305, while it has the nice stiffness in a brush that I'm looking for, it's limitations in the lathering department are starting to outweigh the benefits of the stiffness that I was looking for.
I've used five different soaps, and I know how they performed using both my badgers, and the boar just seems to take away so much from the soaps. For me, it degrades the soaps to the point where they are almost indistinguishable between each other. The burst of lather, the thickness of the lather on my face, just aren't there with this brush. For the $20, it was worth the try, and I'm sure I'll pull it out again to use, but for now, it goes in the box with the Kent K-2, and out comes the short and stubby badger I got with my starter kit and first straight razor.
Next up, been on its way from Germany now for a week or so, will be JimmyHAD's recommended Shavemac pure badger, with the 21mm knot and the 48mm loft, and a nice blue marble handle, thinking that's the closest to my first badger and am looking forward to it.
So while as always, experimentation in this great hobby is most of the fun, for now, the boar population is safe from me.
Cheers!
I know this has been said many times but just had to add to the long list of, "I love this brush", posts. I bought one a few months back and it is great, and gets softer each time you use it. Nice size and works up a good lather. "Not only does it look good, it actually works and feels great.
What was wrong with the Kent? I've often wondered how those were but I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the cost of them. I picked up a FS brush about a year ago and my only complaint is the short handle. But otherwise its great. Its a very dense, very soft silver tip. There might be better brushes but this one was about $45. A good value. I took a gamble on a LS off of eBay that hasn't been delivered yet. I'll let you know if its any good. We'll let the hate fest begin on boar, you and I. LOL
The Kent was just too floppy, I wanted a shaving brush, not a broom to go Curling with! And for the $85.00 outlay, it's done a great job sitting in it's nice leather case in my bathroom.
I have high hopes for this Shavemac, you can actually order the knot size, loft size, and type, i.e., bulb, fan, etc...and then pick your handle shape and color...very cool, and all for about the same price as the Kent.
In the meantime, agreed, I'd hate to be a boar....;)
Just lathering 10 times a day will not help you to brake in your brush, unless you can fully dry it each time you lather it. All process of breaking in shaving brush is the cycle of making it wet and completely drying it. Semouge 1305 and SOC are on the way from Portugal to Toronto.

My 1305
620 here, and as I have used it, it has bloomed and softened some. Still my "go to" brush for face lathering with hard soaps.
My 830 has broken in nicely and is becoming a lather monster. Here's her pre-bloom pic.

For those of us on this thread who love Boar brushes +1. It's all in what ya like...Glad to hear that 830 is broken in nice. Like the avitar as well .
Just had a nice shave with mine !:)Attachment 167163Attachment 167162
Nice lather you got there. Do you face lather with your 620? I gave mine to a friend who just started wet shaving. Now I'm thinking of getting another one. I miss that brush.
I mug lather with all my brushes the majority of the time. The 620 was given to me by a friend who didn't care for it. I love'em both but the 1305 is my favorite for sure. Both broke in wonderfully....but then again ,that's splitting boar hairs with me as I liked their performance from the get-go, they only got/better with age.:)
I have the Semogue 620, 830 and Owner's Club in both 2 Band and boar. Each one is quality made and very pleasant to use. I rotate them all but the 620 is perfect for face lathering from hard soaps. Each boar has a slightly different feel but I enjoy using boars as much as my badgers. Variety of brushes and razors keep the shaves interesting.
I'm a fan of my 1305 fan!
I have about six Semogue brushes and like 10 Omega brushes (I know, B.A.D.). I guess in a nutshell, I find the handles and general good looks on the Semogues to be superior. But those Omega knots are pretty incredible, and I feel, superior to the Semogue knots <dives for foxhole>.
Well then good on ya. Nothin wrong with liking what ya like. It's like saying what's better Gelato or Ice cream ? Some folks got taste buds what can differentiate the nuances....me I love'em both equal:)
