Simpson Chubby vs Thater 4125/3
Who wins this battle of the 28 mm brushes ???Simpson @ 261.00 and Thater @ 200.00 both 2 bands . I currently have a Thater 24 tulip cut and they are soft with a lot of backbone...never tried a chubby Simpson....what to do ?????

The Chubby is a unique brush. It has a very dense fill and the short handle can be an issue with all the lather it makes. It can be a sloppy brush.

I have a 2 band Chubby 3 that I recently went for. Took a bit of breaking in but it has become an absolute favorite. Two completely different experiences, the Thater and the Chubby. I love the Simpson ........ taking nothing away from the 2 band Thater. Both great brushes. Just completely different feel with the Chubby having even more backbone and density.

Good question and I have to qualify the answer. I've sold (to my regret) a few Rooney Finests and old Somerset Simpson two band supers. They felt scritchy to me. Very scritchy. After the buyers had them awhile I asked them if they thought they were scritchy. One said not really , the other said very slightly. So with that caveat ........ mine is a two band Manchurian and it is nicely scritchy. Not like the chubby 2 Somerset Manchurian I sold a couple of years ago.
I used to say that that Chubby 2 could take the chrome off of a trailer hitch. This Vulfix/Simpson is not like that but it is a wonderful brush with some scritch and probably more backbone than any brush I've ever messed with. I was really leery to try the Vulfix Simpsons because Vulfix had the reputation of 'floppy' brushes. The two Simpsons I have from them are great and I highly recommend them.Last edited by JimmyHAD; 08-29-2013 at 01:15 AM.
