    Default Just One Successful Setup

I've been doing this for about 2 months now and I've reached a setup that works for me --it'll probably change over time but for now I'm happy. I have the following:

    (1) Rival 4071WN 32-Ounce Hot Pot Express -- for heating water/hot towel
    (2) Distilled Water
    (3) Jason Natural 6-n-1 Beard & Skin Therapy --- for pre-shave
    (4) Burma Boars Hair Brush --- good enough for me --but I'm easy
    (5) Pyrex custard bowl/cup and Ceramic Mug Combo (generic mug)
    (6) Tony Miller's Kit ---Honey Brown Strop and Dovo Special Black 5/8" Full Hollow
    (7) Various Plastic Jars for Soap --bought here: http://www.specialtybottle.com/
    (8) Thayers Medicated SuperHazel ---- aftershave/toner --great stuff (not shown)

Everything works great together and for a new guy with limited means it's pretty damn good. The Pyrex custard cup is perfect size for me and fits into the ceramic mug which contains hot water --- keeps the lather nice and warm. Anyway, just one setup but works for me --but again I'm easy and like to keep it simple. Later,

    Justin

Wildtim et al., just some other stuff I bought at http://www.specialtybottle.com. I wasn't sure what to buy so I bought an assortment of tins and plastic jars. All are good but I think the plastic jars are better --they open easier for one thing. Also, I bought the tall tin container for my razor, styptic pencil, and what ever loose ends I might pick up. All work good. For the soap jars and tins, buy a little bigger than you think you might need (unless you melt your soap) --the diameters given are inside diameters and might even be jar openings sometimes --but they always tend to be smaller than you need. They all seem to be priced well and should last a good while. Later,

I like that "et al" thing you got going on

    Justin:

do you think they have anything suitable to put the razor in for tavelling from what you've seen?

First off Mr Ivo. Glad you appreciate the kit --it isn't much over all but I enjoy taking things and tasks and trimming them down --until all you have is something simple that works well. I haven't bought any hones or paddle strops yet but probably will pick up something from Tony Miller within a month's time. Thank again

Now to Mr. Steve (Steve you're never part of the et al - that's where I put our Aussie and Canadian friends ) but seriously, something for traveling? Do you mean casual traveling or flying/international/intergalactic/to hell and back type travel. The tall tin in the photo actually has a top that seats well and you could definitely put a couple of razors in it. I was thinking about punching some holes in the side to make sure air circulated well ----the humidity around here is typically 70% + and things can rust fast --- RI probably has fairly high humidity as well so you know. The tin is nice because it resists corrosion really well and I like the metallic look. That web site has some cool cobalt and amber glass bottles -- maybe for homemade pre-shave oils or aftershave concoctions. They might have some elongated tins there that could carry a razor or two ---anyway what are you looking for? Later,

    Justin

Nice little setup. I'm impressed with the custard cup in the mug situation. I've stopped using stainless steel to whip up my lather. It just cools off way too fast.

Yeah, X. The custard cup/mug combo came about mostly by accident. I first started using a little aluminum bowl but it cooled too fast . Then I started using the custard cup (a ceramic custard cup would be nice) which I think is the right size for me -you can really manipulate it while whipping up some lather ---but I was using it with one of those cup warmers and it over heated the lather. Then I bought the ceramic mug and it just so happened to fit well with the custard cup. I like the look of stainless but I think it cools too fast as well. As far as the et al. thing it was supposed to be a friendly dig on my Canadian and Aussie friends --but like most things written late at night , they're never quite as humorous the following day.
