Thanked: 1Recomend a New Brush
Hello,
I have just started wet shaving and I am currently using a red/white handle brush from the grocery/drug store. From what info I have gathered, I think that it is boars hair??? I am wanting a badger brush, I think, that would be a good all around everyday brush. I have been using puck soap in a mug, and that has seems to be working out. With xmas around the corner I would like to keep the budget around $50.00
Thanks for your help and advice!

The Superior Shave sells some of their company branded brushes for around $50, I think. They're all German made knots and handles that are exclusively sold by TSS. Their site is a little perturbing at first, but if you start at the home page, you shoudl see a link to something along the lines of "Our -something- Brushes." All are at least best-badger or silvertip quality and I think they're in that price range.
I'd confirm and direct link, but my work computer doesn't like their site. I'll report back later tonight from home.

Probably a best badger in that price range if you go with the usual outfits like Vulfix or kent or Simpson. If you use the independents like Omega, TGN or Frank and some others you see mentioned here you get more for your money.

Your boar brush should get better as it breaks in.
If you want to try a cheap badger whipped dog currently has some silver tip in stock and a good variety of black badger. The cheapest he has listed is black badger in a resin handle for $22 shipped.

I have tried a handful of brushes boar, badger, silver tip. I find the best money I have spent so far is on my Wee Scot. She is a small brush but an amazing performer. I love face lathering so me and the Wee will be friends for life!

Greg,
I would spend a little more money, about $65 or so, and get the Simpson Commodore X2 ( the X1 version is a bit smaller and less expensive). The X2 best badger is a good all around brush with a 22 mm knot and a 44 mm loft. It has a medium backbone and an ergonomic handle. The X3 best badger is even better at around $75.

Some cheap and still good brushes... Progress Vulfix 404 (badger/boar mix), Semgoue 620 (boar) and the Turkish "No.6" (horse... beware of the stink at first).
The Turkish "No.6" can be bought at www.bestshave.net... and is really *dirt* cheap... $2.45 in your monopoly money.~ Dave ~ ... back to lurking...

Thanked: 1Thanks for all the replies. The Simpson and the whipped dog brush look like front runners, but well see. I have 3 razors being honed from Larry @ whipped dog, so i kinda like the idea him being my shaving "guy". ahhh the decisions.......
Thanks
