What are the differences between a 26mm and a 28mm Thater brush?
Hi guys, I need some input on the Thater brushes, I don't own any of them, so opinions of those who do will be much appreciated.
I decided to get a bigger knot size, since the brushes I have are two 21mm Muhles, but I don't know which knot would work best for me.
I bowl lather and use TOBS soap. I narrowed down to these two sizes: a 26mm or a 28mm, both of them Thaters. So, what do you guys
think?
Thank you, have a nice day!!!

The difference between the 26mm and the 28mm are obvious - exactly 2mm.
Sorry - couldn't resist!

Hahaha, I guess I should have thought a better way to put that before I posted.

I'm struggling with what you are asking for advice on here. Both the 26 and 28mm knts will be much bigger than you are used to but it's the loft that makes a difference between bowl and face lathering. Generally, face latherers prefer good backbone and that's even more important with soaps than creams. As you bowl lather with creams, you will tend to paint lather on so you can get away with a higher loft.
To answer Hayzee, bigger brushes create and hold more lather so if you do more than one pass they help in that you don't need to start afresh. Of course smaller brushes than 26 or 28 will still create more than enough lather so it's also a question of some just preferring a bigger knot.

William,
I am quite fond of the Thater brushes. They are well made with good backbone and tips as soft as the first kiss.
Through the years I have owned Thater brushes in 22 mm, 23 mm, 24 mm and 26mm, all of which I no longer have. My current Thater brushes are the 4125/3, in 28 mm knot, and 4125/4, in 30 mm knot. Both are delicious. The difference in size is noticeable, but both perform equally well. I believe both have a 55 mm loft. Since I mostly face lather, these are perfect, especially since these days I prefer the bigger brushes.
For face lathering, I suggest a loft anywhere from about 45 to 55 mm. Since you are accustomed to the smaller brushes, the 28 and the 30 might be too large for you. If I may suggest, go with the Thater 4125/2, which is in 26 mm knot with the loft somewhere between 50 mm and 55 mm.
Good stuff Thater brushes.
