Some soaps/creams have a very strong scent, you can smell it in the end of shaving as the brush dries in the self
Some don't and in the end of rinsing the brush does not have almost nothing
Nevertheless ,if you have many brushes when you get an "old" one and soak it for your next shaving won't have anything on it.

That got me thinking: when one switches between products with different scents, how do you get rid of the traces of the previous scent? I know some of you guys have a metric buttload of soaps and creams, so how do you manage?

don't tell me you have different brushes for each product!!!
I also use the Van Der Hagen brush with The Art of Shaving Sandalwood cream and really enjoy the combo. For the money the Van Der Hagen did great. It retained a little of the scent but that doesn't bother me. I would think that one could soak the brush in Dawn (original) dish soap to clean it out.
