Thread: $50 budget for new brush. what do you pick

I am setting a side a budget of $50 or less to add another brush to the rotation. My current brush is a best badger EJ in ivory. Really like this brush. Curious to try some others though. Maybe different handle shape an color. So for all the BAD sufferers on here, if you had my budget what brush would you choose again. I am saving to have walleye build me a brush in peacock but that's a bit off. So for now Id like some suggestions. Thanks

If you have a nice badger brush...why not try a boar brush? I tried a Semogue, and while it was different, and didn't quite measure up in my opinion, I'm going to pull it back out soon enough and give it another try, if only to change things up. So for $50.00, you could grab a nice boar brush, and cross off the list trying one....

I agree I have the Semogue 1305 and it is a great compliment to my stable of Badgers. I hear the Semogue Owners Club is really nice.

I have the 1305, great looking brush, as boar brush as you get! I've had one round with it and didn't necessarily like it. Having said that, the great thing about this hobby is I can pull it out and try again, which I will be doing for the next shave...love the ability to change things up when I want.

+3 on the Semogue 1305 at $19, though the painted handle is a tad fragile (dropped mine). If you want another Badger, Jim at Vintage Blades has several sizes in Finest that I have read good reports of that start at $29. You could actually do both for your budget (not including postage).

I'd do something different from what you have, either in loft or knot size or material.

I agree on the Semogues. I have an 820, which I didn't like at first, but after 4 or 5 uses have found it to be a great latherer with even hard soaps. I'm not crazy about it with creams, but for them I have several badgers, all of which are Parkers which cost in the $30 range.

Take a look at the Vulfix Site. They should have quite a selection in your price range.

I've made all mine, so I can't comment on brands, but if it were me and you haven't tried Finest Badger or Boar that's what I'd go for.

I have been contemplating a boar brush. Never used one. I have a steady rotation of creams. Very little soaps. I've read that boar tends to do better with soaps. Also for the price of boar compared to badger I may just try a couple. On that note the price of the parker brushes is enticing. Any one know the longevity on the cheaper brushes? I've gotten great mileage out of my current brush. That's why I never bought any more. Aint broke kinda thing. LOL. Thanks for all the info so far guys.

I'd try the WSP 2 band silvertip (amazon has it for around $50). Great brush for palm or face lathering.
