Thanked: 0Shavemac silvertip brushes
I am looking for advice/opinions from members that are familiar with Shavemac silvertip brushes. I am leaning towards either a Shavemac 177 or 22580. Both are silvertips, similar in price. As a newbie that wants a better brush than I currently use(ashamed to say it was a brush that came with a zeepk set from ebay, purchased before I found this site). This brush costs about $100. I know it is made in Germany and have a lot of respect for German workmanship and attention to detail. What do members think of the performance of this brush? If any member has a strong recommendation for another quality badger brush feel free to reply. I know Jim from Vintage Blades is offering free shipping until end of March on Rooney and Shavemac brushes.
thanks, Del

Thanked: 79Haven't had the pleasure of doing business with Vintage Blades yet, but as far as Shavemacs go, buy with confidence. I have 2 of them and they are wonderful brushes. Not only that Bernd Blos (of Shavemac) backs his products.

I don't have either of those brushes, but I do have 4 Shavemacs. You will never see them up for sale. Never.

Hi Del,
I got my Shavemac 177 23mm Silvertip from Jim at Vintagebladesllc.com.
The brush is Incredible, I love it. It was my first Silvertip and first Shavemac. I love the bulb shape, the tips are very soft, but the brush is pretty firm...not floppy at all. It gives great control when applying the lather, and is alot less messy than some of the larger bloomed floppy brushes. It keeps it's shape well and has a tight controlled bloom.
It's Fantastic I think anyone would be very happy with a Shavemac. It's my favorite brush so far...
I'll be getting another from Jim before the sales over

Thanked: 213Jim is great do not worry about that. As for Shavemac closet thing to Simpson's out there. Got some backbone, depending on the brush you can get a good scrubber or a soft cream brush or something in between. They are densely packed. not moppy at all. If that is what you are looking for

Thanked: 0thanks
Thanks for your input guys. I will be buying a shavemac silvertip brush this week. Really looking forward to using a quality brush. My current brush started shedding bad after only a few shaves. The fact that the tip is very soft but that the brush is firm, not floppy was of great help. This is great info. I appreciate the help!

Thanked: 4Del:
I think you won't be disappointed in your purchase. I'm eagerly awaiting the delivery of my latest brush from Bernd - the SMF VLB. It will be the last damned brush I buy. I absolutely love my other brush from Shavemac (SMF1). You can't go wrong with any of them, IMHO. A really great brush for the money.

Thanked: 0I recently received my Shavemac 177 from Jim at www.vintagebladesllc.com. I only have a cheap brush to compare it against but it was exactly as other members stated here. The bristles are densly packed so it does not give a mopping effect when lathering. But yet the silvertips are very soft on my face. This brush holds lots of water and lather. I am very happy to have a high quality brush. I can see why rtaylor says they are a great brush. Jim was even kind enough to throw in a sample of Floris JF shaving cream. Has a great fragrance and lathers well. Very comfortable shave. I might need to order some......

I got the same brush a few weeks ago. I love mine. The size, the density, the feel of it. Everything is just great. I also got samples of the Floris JF cream as well as the Aftershave Balm with another order. I love them both, and when I have the money I will be purchasing both.
