Default Simpson factory will be expanded due to high demand - article

I was amazed to read that they are making half a million brushes per year now:

I can't imagine how many bald badgers there must be!

Good for Simpsons, they make a fine product and deserve some success. Maybe after the expand capacity they can start to fill some custom orders.

    LOL!

I guess with this level of demand "badger farms" can't be too far behind...

Wasn't there a post last year about England planning on culling their badger population?

In most movies and T.V shows and even commercials where there is a bathroom scene you will see a shave brush in the medicine cabinet. I think it has become a status symbol.

Nothing like a high end brush to apply your Gillette Foamy.

Who would have thought a seemingly long dead tradition could be revitalized so completely ..

    I'm glad for their success!

I remember reading this too, one UK based member mentioned that because of environmental laws the hair from those badgers could not be utilized...

I would have made for some pretty fancy badger hair types, imagine...

Yes there was a badger cull here in the UK late last year, as they apparently play a part in the spread of tuberculosis in cows.... So dairy farmers thoroughly dislike having them on their land.

They also make up a fair percentage of our road kill unfortunately. A work colleague and I have joked in the past that we should collect any 'fresh' ones we may see on the way to work, and try our hand at brush making, as it seems a waste seeing a carcass by the side of the road!
