Simpsons Chubby, best badger or super badger???
Good morning to all of you shaving devils. I'm sure this is probably the 100th thread regarding the never ending war between the simpsons grades of badger (best and super). Actually I just want opinions of those who have experience with these brushes. I have some myself, last year I bought a Chubby 1 in super badger, I'm quite pleased by it, nothing to complain except the price. I'm thinking on getting another chubby, haven't decided if it's the 2 or 3 (inputs and opinions about the sizes are also greatly appreciated), but the main question is: do I get one in best badger or in super badger? I'm posting a thread about this because it really is something I want to think through before actually buying the brush. I would gladly get the Chubby 3 in super badger, but it's so damn expensive. My chubby 1 in super it's great, but I would like to ask you guys if I would feel too much of a difference if I go down to a best badger. I mean, is the super badger really so much better than the best to cost so much? Bottomline is that I just want to get the best cost/benefit for my money.
So, what do you guys think is the best way to go?
- Chubby 2 in best?
- Chubby 2 in super?
- Chubby 3 in best?
- Chubby 3 in super?
Thanks a lot and take care!

Thanked: 12Size is a very personal matter and only your experience with a two or three will let you know if it is worth the high cost of admission. I started with a Chubby 2 and then added a 3 and 1. I enjoy all three sizes but the 3 is my favourite. In your situation, as you are happy with a Chubby 1 super, why not consider a step up in grade to a Chubby 1 two band? Rarely available and to many shavers the best looking and performing grade of badger. Simpsons has them on the LE page now but they have sold out on some variants in minutes...
Good luck on your choice.

Gentlemen,
For years, I have had a running battle with Simpson brushes in the best badger grade for being too scratchy — I abhor the pure badger in any brand. I have owned the Chubby 3 in super and found it an excellent brush, although a wee bit too dense with too much backbone for me. Currently I am down to one Simpson: the Polo 8 in super and love it.Last edited by Obie; 08-09-2014 at 12:57 AM.

What qualities do you like in a brush? That should dictate your decision. Do you like big brushes? Do you like a brush where your entire hand will be covered in lather? Do you like soft and floppy or stiffer or maybe really scratchy?
Check out the manchurian line too.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I have decided, from a lot of experience, and from reading other people's posts, that I must have very sensitive skin. I appreciate soft tips with backbone, as in the Thater 2 band, but I love scritchy. I have had scritchy in Simpson Best, Super and in Manchurian. I've sold brushes that were scritchy to me, but not to the people who bought them. These were Rooney Finests, and I asked the new owners how they felt subsequent to their having them a couple of weeks. Say this to say, that depending on your skin, one may be scritchy or not.
I had a chubby 2 and sold it. Later I bought a chubby 3 Manchurian because all of the planets were in alignment. It is big, tremendous backbone, and very delightfully scritchy. Upon receiving it I thought it was too big, but it is just a joy to use. Much more than the smaller version was. As has been said, it is a very individual choice. OTOH, if you go for the high end, and don't care for it, you have a better chance of getting your money out of it. IMHO.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
