Where to find custom or rare mugs?
Hi folks,
Does anybody know of a business or person that makes custom shaving mugs?
Also, is there any advice on finding cool or rare mugs?
Thanks

Thanked: 369Hi,
I do custom decorative work on shaving mugs. Hand painted graphics, names, gold, etc. Let me know what you have in mind.
I have been a collector of antique shaving mugs for a number of years. Ebay can be a good source for collectible shaving mugs, but not necessarily recommended for inexperienced collectors. There are other online auction sites as well, but it is still best to have a good knowledge base first.
Try contacting the NSMCA (National Shaving Mug Collectors Association) http://www.nsmca.net/. They have a newsletter that can be very informative, as well as other members that can be of help. Also they have periodic meetings around the country where members meet to talk shop and buy, sell, trade.
Also, try getting Keith Esteps first book on collecting shaving mugs and barber bottles (http://www.amazon.com/Shaving-Mug-Ba...322847&sr=1-1). Lots of good info for a new collector.

There used to be a lady who put numerous old mugs up for auction on Eboy every Sunday evening. I think she is in England.

I have a beautiful occupational mug made by Scott for me and the price was reasonable! I think a few others here have mugs made by Scott too.
