    I ended up getting a bowl called a "quaich" after drooling over the pics. Beautiful pewter Scottish ceremonial drinking vessel. Perfect as a shave bowl.
    It reminds me of a porager or porringer. They have these in different New England shops. A lot of them made from pewter.
