Thanked: 3228Here is where personal preferences and experiences come. I can agree with what has been said about the characteristics of the badger vs synthetic brushes in general. The animal cruelty angle has little influence with me but can be a point for those so oriented.
I love my Simpsons Chubby2 synthetic with a 50mm loft that many find hard to use with circular strokes face lathering. I find it easy to use circular strokes with while face lathering. I even had the loft lowered on a Muhle XL STF brush when I had the knot from it set in a new handle because I found the factory high loft setting too floppy for my taste. That worked out great for me.
Even within a certain type of knot the loft setting, size and density of knot have a big influence on how a brush will feel and perform to the user. That is why you have to try a few brushes out to see what is going to work for you.

Thanked: 2Thanks guys for the advice. I'm using an Omega S10049 S brush I got off SRD. It seems to work well but not knowing how the other side is I've not be convinced that it's my favorite. It's soft and comfortable and makes a good lather.

Thanked: 1184Just get one of each kind as you see fit. A variety is always nice to have experienced. You don't know until you try. You may wind up loving a wire wheel on a drill :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

No worries. You are already in a better position than most if you have a brush you're happy with. Picking up another brush or two of different types is hardly a case of "gilding the lily" or "adding another hue unto the rainbow..." (apologies to Wm. Shakespeare). This is part of what makes the whole thing kind of fun and interesting.

Just ordered a new custom brush from a well known craftsman who's brushes are very well regarded (especially on some other forums). My choice of knot, what I thought to be the best available, was a 25mm Muhle STF. Just my opinion..
