    Default L7 ?? I got your L7..Right here!!

The L7 brush...I have had an attraction to that bit of goods for quite some time. Something about it just grabs me. Naturally it is a product that is not the easiest to procure. So..."If the mountain will not come to Mohammed, Mohammed shall go to the mountain."

Multiple attempts to get in touch with the somewhat elusive Mr. Sabini proved to be fruitless. Not uncommon I have been told. Indeed...

So although I understand the L7 brush is quite the stellar product, working on the premise that a Rooney brush (of which I have one) is pretty much cut from the same bolt of cloth quality-wise, my thoughts are the L7 isn't ALL that magnificent. A fine brush? Yes. The be all and end all of brush-dom? probably not. Hence.....

    Remember the mountain??

Ordered this from a well known brush artisan, a totally bespoke piece made to my specifications which were pretty much the same as the original L7. The differences are the handle is about 5mm bigger than OEM to accomodate my larger than average hands and a Muhle STF V2 knot set at 50mm. I have come to the conclusion that the new synthetic knots are very, very good. In many/most cases better than some of the highly touted badger knots out there. My opinion anyway.

Whole thing done in a matter of a few days. It is always refreshing to see quality craftsmen in the marketplace who know how to get things done correctly and quickly. This is my 3rd order from this vendor. No doubt there will be others and I will recommend him to anyone wanting a really nice handcrafted brush for a very fair price.

Now that is a handle style that I also love the look of, classic. I would also have to agree with your conclusion on synthetic knots. Just recently I had a Muhle STF V2 XL size knot placed in a custom handle with a loft setting of 54mm. I had found that the factory loft setting was too high for my liking as a face latherer. What size knot did you use? I am very interested in your thoughts on how the knot preforms at that setting for future reference. Also happy that there is someone else who has an appreciation for synthetic knot and what they bring to the table.

    25mm knot (same as OEM).

For sure, the current synthetics are a joy. Another good one is the Omega Hi-Brush, vastly under rated

Interesting, same knot but set 4mm lower than mine. Just picked up a Plisson sold at L'Occitane stores and it is the softest I have tried so far but again the loft is high enough it reminds of a bit of a floppy silver tip, not the best for a good face lathering but it works. Also have two Virginia Sheng 22mm synthetic knots set to 48mm lofts that work well. I guess I am hooked on synthetics.

A truly classic style handle I especially love those two little turnings, makes all the difference in the world.

Very nice brush Phoenix51, that's an interesting take, a synthetic Muhle in a L7 handle. I may have to give that a whirl as I like my Muhle 21mm STF.

Here's a used original I lucked up on finding - even a blind squirrel finds some nuts! I think maybe the handle isn't quite the same, but close. BTW, I had heard Lee was temporarily out of the L7 handles, and many Europeans take the entire month of August or September on vacation. I know Thiers-Issard UK is on vacation in September.

    Cheers, Steve
