Thread: What Brush Should I Get

I was wondering if I can get all of your opinions on what badger brush I can get as a gift for my dad and one for myself, that is good (you experts would recommended from experience with it) and no more then 40 bucks (I guess that's what I would spend on each one). I am buying my dad a de and getting him all the things he needs for wet shaving, I have a cheap badger and boar brush and want to get him something nicer.

I think that there are a lot of companies that can fit that bill. Just a quick look at Straight Razor Designs showed Omega brushes at a low start price. I think the Omegas are a good brush for the money. When you get to a spot where you want an amazing brush and want to spend a little more there are some amazing brush makers on this forum.

I think your best bang for the buck for a good badger is a Whipped Dog Silvertip. They are $30-$35 delivered. I used mine this morning. I have had this one for about a year and a half now. It is 24mmx48mm.

I would go for direct Chinese import. I have a Frank's Shaving Brush which is truly fantastic and on par with the best of my brushes.

+1 on above, Also ask yourself how much scratch or scritch on the face do you like. Pure Badger gives more scratch and least expensive, (personally I prefer more scritch) Best, Super and Silvertip progressively get softer tips.
Denis What Brush, Soap, Razor or Blade is good for one man may not be good for another.

There is an Edwin Jagger Best Badger brush in the classifieds for $35. I've used one for over a year, and it is a fine brush. Might consider it...

friend of mine started off with a 10$ tweezerman from amazon. still uses it 2 years later! never felt the need to get anything different

+1 on direct import, unless you want a Shavemac or Thäter.

Of course you can. Here you go. Whipped Dog resells Chinese import knots and handles. As does The Golden Nib aka TGN. Cut out the middle man, and save money.
