Thanked: 14vintage brushes
I read the brush primer and still had a question. The other day i stuck my head in an antique place and saw a bunch of straights in a case-AND a bunch of brushes. I plan to go back and look closer- I mostly know what to look for on the razors, but, could some of the brushes be useable ?
I mean, other than looking not too decroded and having healthy looking hair, I wonder what to look for. At first thought it seemed kind of nasty to use somebody else's old brush- but the more i think about it I keep wondering if maybe there's a super high quality brush just sitting there in that case....

I don't think that you could go wrong with a vintage Simpson brush. I don't have a problem with using a used brush, as dipping the bristle in boiling water for a minute or two will surely take care of any germs. Good luck with your search.

Still new to the Forum but my first thought was, “ ..if you saw a nice handle why not get it re-fitted with a new brush ..?

I know alot of guys like used brushes however I'm not one of them. No matter how much cleaning you do you can never get really down into the brush and clean it out properly. It's just the nature of the beast. Maybe if you know a brush was lightly used and the owner was really fastidious about cleaning and it was in super shape I might give it a second look.

Unless they're NOS put a new knot in them. If they're minty, shampoo, condition and give them an overnight soak in your fav shave soap or Cholesterol.
