I've got a Semogue Boar and it feels pretty much like my Simpson badger....scritchier than i prefer, but does a great job, so I rotate it in when I'm in the mood. Neither are my favorites, but they lather and that, after all, is their job!

I guess everyone's face is different (mine is pretty much oblivious to razor burn....although it HATES Prosaso Green), so I assume that everyone's experience with brushes, soaps, razors and after shaves are somewhat different. Accordingly, I own almost one of everything...more of my favorites.

I have a $200, and a $100 silvertip, but my $20 dollar boars get the most attention.

The closest I've come to liking the boar brushes is the Vulfix, "Grosvenor" which is a mixed badger boar brush. It's a change, but IMO, the boar brushes just don't hold water or lather the way the badgers do. But as mentioned, whatever floats your boat...

I have Semogue Boars, Vie Long Horse Hair and different brands of STB brushes.. They all perform well. I seem to pick the STB more often for my shaves. The STB are the softest, hold the most water, heat, and lather.

    Gentlemen,

I have trimmed my lineup of shaving brushes to two Thater custom two-bands. I have sent out a Burma Shave boar brush for re-knotting with a silvertip knot. My synthetics include Simpson Chubby 2, Plisson and Edwin Jagger XL. I especially love the Plisson synthetic. Then there are several boar bristle brushes that I bring out of retirement from time to time, including the Semogue Owners Club, 1250, 2000, 1305 and 830, and the Omega 81064. The boars are coming out this week.

I have a 10098 as well, it is a great brush, i also have a semogue 1305 which is also very good. I think the bristle length of the 10098 works to balance the backbone and softness.
I have a badger brush too but find it far too soft for my liking.

Nice to see that there are some people that still like a classic boar brush. With all the hype on silvertip I figured the users of the boar brushes would be a slim %. Happy to see I am wrong.

For the gentlemen that think boars are scratchy or prickly, yes they might be right out of the box. Give it a months use and you will see it flower into an amazing lathering machine and will keep getting better and softer. No soap will hinder its abilities to bend it into creamy aerated goodness. Badgers of similar size and loft become spineless mops. Let the battle of Badger vs. Boar continue lol.
