Opinion of shavemac finest badger 30/70 and Thater 4125/5 two band fan brushes
After few days using them.
This is how they appear.
In the middle is Muhle silvertip fibre XL for comparison.
I found the shavemac finest badger 30mm knot and 70mm loft is very floppy.
Still have some backbone but it performed better with creams and soft soaps
Need some skill lathering hard soaps.
When properly lathered it has gentle massage effect and flows smoothly on face.
The Thater 4125/5 two band is without doubt a top performing brush.
It is big (33mm knot), dense, luxury and has adequate backbone.
Lathered easily with all products.
I am interested in 4125/6 but it’s hard to find.
Nassrasur has it but including shipping cost and bank transfer fee it is nearly 400euro!

I have a Thater 4292/5 and I really like that one, not sure I could justify a 400 euro brush. Felt like I was really splurging on the 4292.

Thanked: 3228I can't imagine using a badger shave brush in the sizes illustrated with that much bloom, never mind an even larger sized one with presumably even more bloom. The Muhle STF XL was big enough for me and even better when I reduced the loft by having it put in a custom handle. It sure is a YMMV thing when it comes to brush size preferences.
I have a hard time ever imagining I'd pay 400+ Euros for a brush being a cheap skate myself. Oth if you have deep pockets and the urge why not.

I own a 4125/6. The brush is €290, which is absolutely reasonable given the rarity of badger hair in uniform quality and length. That said, the brush is too big to actually use. It is fun, yes, but for everyday use, it is much too inefficient. I would definitely stick with the 26 or 28mm ones unless you want to burn cash (ie soaps or creams) without any noticeable increase in effectiveness.
More bluntly put: This is a brush for bragging, not for using. Steer clear of it.
