    Default Badger

So I'm fairly new to straights, but have been DE shaving for a few years, Ive had a synthetic, boar, an omega boar (price to quality ratio is outstanding on this thing), and i've had one badger brush

(sorry for the google image i leave it at work) I found it on amazon for cheap (maybe ~$30) and it works like a champ, great lather, heat retention, and is very smooth.
Now I'm looking for a new brush to keep at home, was I lucky on the quality of this brush?
Should i get another, or would it be worth it if i was impressed with this lower end brush to just step it up a notch?
Also whats with the vie long horse hair brushes, haven't seen a lot of info on these, they are fairly cheap ~$40

    Thanks for reading

Oftentimes, as is the case in life. You get what you pay for. Although there are good deals to be found at lower price points, if you buy a good quality badger from a reputable company you will find that the performance will increase exponentially. Up to a point. It is debatable once you get up in the stratospheric price ranges (above $160) that you are getting something THAT much better than a good quality 2 band or Silvertip in the $80-160 price range.

At the higher price ranges for brushes you will find softer tips (in general, depending on the type of hair you select) definitely higher densities coupled with very good backbone. Overall, a more luxurious face feel.

For me, after using many, many different brushes over the years at all price points. Nothing equals the luxurious face feel of a good quality badger hair brush from Shavemac, Wiborg, Simpson or Thater to name just a few of the higher end manufacturers.

I particularly like the two bands that Thater makes.

But the new two band (non D01 knot) that Shavemac has is in a special class and would be my first choice if I was to buy a new brush now.
