Lesson learned
Here a few months ago I ordered an Omega boar brush. It didn't occur to me to what the difference would be I knew that I had always used a boar brush and this new one would be just what I wanted. Wrong. The handle is good but the bristles are so long that they bend so much that creating a lather with soap is a little difficult for me. now the other than that the brush is ok. it looks good the handle feels good in the hand it's just not what I expected. I said all that to say this to anyone new to this game or some one who has been shaving with brush and soap for some time but really doesn't know about bristle length. For me the shorter bristles and stiffer bristles create a lather quicker and easier with soap that bristles that are long and softer. I'll probably keep the brush just not use it. Now I don't collect brushes. I think I have 3 others and they are Ever-ready boar C40. I know when I got the Omega I thought it was great but the more I've used it the less I liked it. So for those beginning this trip take time to study what there is and then buy. When I buy another I'll take the time to find out about these things.

With my ability it would probably be less expensive to just buy another brush all I have to do is figure out what size to get. And Hirlau I don't eat Barbeque but I could get a lot of different color paint, cut off my ear and change my name to Van Went.

I thought of that. Right now there kind of rounded and looks ok. The last time I had a beard and tried to trim it I ended up shaving it. if nothing else I can use it for looks in the bathroom.

Have you used with other soaps?
I've found that some soaps work better with different brushes.
Or soaking the puck if its a hard soap like Williams mug.
Or adding some glycerin.
Just a though, YMMVMike

Roger I am the same with my brushes , I look for the loft right from the go. Most of my custom brushes are between 48-58mm longer than that I think is too floppy , I,m not sure about just trimming , Never tryed that , but one of these brush guys could take that thing apart for you. Tc

Go to the hardware store and buy a couple "O-rings" that have a little less inside diameter, than the diameter of the bristles at the handle. Stretch them over the knot and you shorten the active bristles.
Works well for me, and is a lot more sanitary than wrapping with string.

ADD: If you wrap the bristles tightly with newspaper it becomes a lot easier!!Last edited by Geezer; 07-19-2015 at 01:33 AM. Reason: Added how to!
