Thanked: 3215My original Simpson is over 40 years old and going strong.
I do shampoo every new brush a few times to get the knot to bloom properly. Just a dollop of shampoo in your palm and lather up a wet brush rinse and repeat a few times.
Drape a towel over your hand with the fingers out, like shaking a hand and run the tip of the brush over your top finger to flick the water into the towel. Turn the brush a quarter turn and repeat, it will fluff the brush and remove most of the water quickly. The brush will almost be completely dry, then hang.
I have taken a Dremel drum to plastic stands and opened up metal ones with a pair of pliers with the metal covered with piece of leather.
It is not unusual for a new brush to lose a hair or two, they are hairs that were not packed all the way down and did not reach the glue.
