For me, I'm starting to find I like the knot's closer to 20mm...anything else tends to fall into to big a brush for my liking.

Arrived today - took awhile to find the L7 as I prefer a smaller knot diameter, but here's mine:

Jimmy - for the way I think you define it - like having steel wool as a brush, really harsh tips, hard face scrubbing action, especially the harsh tips, then no.

If you mean much stiffer backbone than a Simpsons Chubby 1 Super Badger ( didn't think that was possible), with the tips of the brush very firm on the face (could really dig in with no splay), yet the tips themselves were like my Plisson HMW #10 (which is much like the Thater 4125/0 IMO), like a velvet touch, then yes.

Pointless to get to much into comparing various brushes against each other as it's all YMMV - but this brush seems to have found a winning mix of the best features of a couple of my favorites(Simpson/Plisson).

Thanks but no, not really. I have 3 HMWs and all three are scritchy. I've had and sold 4 Thaters, which as you describe had great backbone and silky tips. The old Rooney Finest, the HMWs, and Simpson Supers and Manchurians have been scritchy for me.

It is not like steel wool, it is a gentle feeling of exfoliation .......... if that is a word ...... A.K.A. 'scrubby'. Not soft and silky.

Scrubby is a good word, next shave I'll keep that in mind, only my first use, but it was definitely a unique brush, felt much different on my face than my Plisson, Thater, Simpson CH1 SB, old Simpson Polo 10 Super Badger (what a monster brush!), and my two Rooney finest. On first use what stood out was how little it splayed even when using some force on lathering, could really dig in and the tips didn't feel harsh (which I hate) at all, quite nice and smooth.

See it is an interesting thing ........ to me. In a weak moment I sold a few Rooney finests. Who would've thought they'd be no longer available ? They were delightfully scritchy on my face. The guys that got them ( I asked) didn't find them scritchy. So it is that one man will find a brush scritchy, another will not. I guess I have a sensitive face. With the price of those things, I don't want to pay the freight and end up with a silky feeling bristle. Just the opposite of most guys.

After second shave using this brush, "scrubby" works well, especially the exfoliation point, a unique brush for sure, how he gets such a knot is remarkable. The brush seems to also dry and return perfectly to it's original shape. When I received the brush, I though it was new, seller explained I was the third owner. Picking it up today, it looked exactly the same as when it arrived.
