I have never cleaned a brush yet. I'm not saying that I won't, I just haven't needed to. I just rinse them out well after use, like others have mentioned.

The only time I clean or use a conditioner on a brush is if it is new to me. Otherwise, all I've ever done is thoroughly rinse, shake all of the water out that I can, and let it air dry.
I have seen pictures of brushes with nasty white rings around the base of the knot where soap has built up, and read several threads early on in my time on the forums that this was a normal thing, and this is why it was recommended to clean them every month to prevent this build up. I have brushes going on two years that have never seen anything in that time but shaving soap and clean, warm water. No ugly white soap ring, no reduction in performance.
IMO, if you rinse thoroughly, shake it out, you're good to go. If you can't be bothered to take the time to rinse the soap out, then yeah, line 'em up every month and clean them out. IMO, if you do it right in the first instance, you can avoid the second.
    MHO, YMMV,IME, and all that.
    Mike
