Thanked: 98Do any of you Make? Hand lay up THE knots? or buy from China?
I know little of making the knot, have this Idea about using the winter guard hair/ red or Golden From A Grizzly Bear, it would be the only one around far as I know.
My Buds in Alaska used to tease me about swatting Bears as I was Jumped on by a Black bear, male it was and his gonads got smashed when he knocked me down to chew on me, anyway I like unique things.

It might well be a conversation piece however I don't think it would make a good shaving medium.
Making knots from scratch is a skill for sure. I think we had someone around here who did it some time ago.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 98Well Doughboy, I do have drink stirring sticks make of Grizzly Bear Oosiks (Penile Bone) with a gold or silver spoon on the end and a pair of humping bears on the handle end, they were real popular with my Alaskan Hunting clients. I have some 4" long tundra bear claws for making the brush handles too.
BigspendUR, Have you ever felt the Guard hairs? they have a spine strength of Boar but softer on the last third of the tip and the softness of the finest Badger. I want to use the brush often.
Thanks for the replies Gents, looking into making my own knot, maybe my own method, which is Yet to be developed.

Thanked: 98Boy, making a quality knot is not so hard.
Some Hair, Time, Polyester resin, and CA glue which I have already and this project can move right along, plus I can vacuum the air out of the knot to make all hairs Locked in to the knot.
I will post pics of this project when finished.

Like most things making a.....is not hard. Making it so it works and lasts is another story.
That's why so many brushes start to shed and have to be trashed. it is a skill.
But we'll be anxious to see your result. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 171Once you've found the den; it might be best to harvest during their hibernation period, but be careful not to stumble in the dark over their alarm clocks and wake them up.
If you're still around; let us know how it went (preferably with pictures).
