Thanked: 2284Don't know Bob but I like it! Original badger too, and in the pics it looks like the butterscotch effect hasn't quite set in yet. You going to try and keep the badger hair? Sure looks a heck of a lot like a Duke.

Thanked: 3226Yup, original knot for sure. Hand lathered it a few times to clean it and lathered with it. Works well but is a little too small and a bit floppy for my taste though. On the fence about leaving the knot original or re knotting it.
The handle is not as butter scotch looking as the photo leads you to believe, more a yellowed off white. Nice solid weighty handle that feels good in the hand. The bottom has a slight concave and shows cut off marks.
Yes, it does look a lot like the current Duke but he lower part of the handle seem to have slightly different shape. That is why I thought it could possibly be a vintage Simpsons.
I think I will use it as is before making a final decision on the re knotting. I think it will grow on me.

I think it is a Simpson but I could be wrong (you know the rest) There used to be an old catalog on Em's Place but apparently it is no longer posted. I did find this article in the NYT from 1983. SHAVING - THE PERFECT BRUSH - NYTimes.com
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

As I recall the vintage Simpson brushes had very light stamps filled with lampblack which wore off really quickly.
