Thread: Omega Boar 10099

Gents,
I am thinking of getting this model. My current badger is not great on hard soaps. Any opinions on the omega 10099 would be appreciated

I have a 10098, boar brush, i really like it, though it did stink for a good few weeks, but the smell does go.

Boar continues to break in through it's life.

They always have good backbone. At first you will have a scritch sensation with them. With mine it took probably 10-15 shaves before most of that was gone. 3 years in with that brush and it still seems to be getting better with age. Now it's really soft at the tips but still has really good backbone.

Boar knots shed a fair bit on the break in, It's normal and once it's got rid of those loose hairs it should stabilise. The smell also goes pretty fast, You can shampoo them to remove the smell or just lather up with something potent like proraso and it'll clear out in a couple of shaves.

Also don't limit yourself to the 10099. Omega make an absolutely huge range of brushes, and for very little more you can have a really nice looking brush.

I do not have the Omega 10099 but several 10066 brushes. I think Iceni is right that you should allow 2 to 3 weeks of everyday for the Omega boar to break in. If you can get through that you will be rewarded with a good shave brush.

I got a 10066 a few weeks back, 7 bucks and I love it. Took a hand full of shaves to lessen the smell. Now it's gone completely and has softened up on the face some which I like too.

I've got the Omega #48 and also have the 10098 professional and they are great brushes IMHO. The #48 I've had for 5-6 years and have used at least once a week in my brush rotation. Still performs great and is really nice and soft, but still has backbone. Haven't lost many bristles either in all that time. I think all the Omega boar brushes are very good and probably the best value in brushes for the cost. Wash them with shampoo real good when you first get them and soak in some water will help get rid of the hog smell in the bristles. After a week or two the smell goes away for the most part. I don't think you can go wrong with the Omega boar brushes. Just find the size that you like best. The two I have are both large knots and long bristles and they make great lather and loads of it.

Everyone here seems to agree that I can't go wrong with the Omega besides the lower price point. Really looking forward to ordering one. Thank you gents for sharing your experiences and opinions
