Thread: Saponificio varesino

Ok so I have to ask do any of you guys own a brush from saponificio varesino. I ask because I saw them an I like the looks an I'm thinking of buying one. So I was wondering how good they are do they hold up do they lather well shed a lot those kinds of things?

I've got three pucks of their soap but had no idea that they made brushes.

I just really liked the look was why I was thinking about it if I see something I like I buy it price usually doesn't consern me unless it's insanely priced.

I thought about buying some soap but I seem to like plain scents my ole lady comes home from bath an body works all the time with these candles that have some weird name like summer beach, rain storm an crap like that an that's exactly what they are crap I'm more of a simple scent so I don't usually buy scented item unless I can smell it first because I don't want to gag.

I don't know about that. You won't find a Simpsons Manchurian brush for under $275 USD and these look to be about $175 USD. I don't know if the knots are directly comparable but if they are .....

I have 2 or 3 of their soap, can't remember, but they do lather very well. The scents seem to be on the perfumy side to me which I like. All in all I found them to be excellent soaps.

Not wanting to upset you Hector, but Bob is correct, in the brush market any HMW of good quality, or any well made knot such as Shavemac, Simpsons, Thater, they run just about that for the knot. I have a knot in a handle that is a Shavemac that it ran around 120$ I have Simpsons that the whole brush is like bob said around 275$

Now I understand you have a lot of brushes, surely you can justify 175$ for a quality product. I don't own one, I just looked them up, so they might not be worth what their asking, depends on the knot, but I do think the quality is there, on other sights it has been rated pretty good. Just my take, I do agree you can get a decent brush for less, but my high end brushes are not sitting on the shelf, the others just can't compare, IN MY OPINION.

Oh and I,m not a brush snob, I love good brushes, one of my favorite brushes has a Virginia Sheng knot in it, but this another story. Tc

You are not upsetting me, but this is typical of forums. One gives an educated opinion based on experience and if it doesn't fit the narrative is wrong.

No need to do that. Just put out what I saw on the respective sites. Now I do own a Simpsons Manchurian and a couple of Shavemac 2 band Silvertip brushes and find them comparable enough. Now you know why I have 2 Shavemac brushes. Certainly I am not an expert but like you entitled to state and opinion which you are free to disagree with and have. Wish I had an SV brush to compare to the other two but I think I am full up on brushes, at least for now.

Wow wasn't trying to start the brush wars hahaha just thought they looked good an it stated that they were manchurian an they weren't too over priced to me.

I was also looking at them because I have some expensive razors some expensive strops an 2 brushes one is a green an black ever ready that I put a new knot in that I think I placed a little high but it's a good brush all around the other is just a no name with a nice badger knot an I have a handle from the boar brush that comes with vanderhagen (I believe that's who make that kit). So I thought it was time for an expensive brush too an the looks of this one caught my eye.

There's no point in trying to argue with Hector. He considers himself an expert on everything and any opinion at variance with his own will be met with derision. I for one think the SV brush is a good value, given the propensity for shedding associated with the famous British maker....
