Shavemac D01 2 band loft
Title pretty much says it all. Looking to get one at Christmas and want opinions on loft. Will get the 26mm knot which is factory set on the site at 50mm. Just wondering what loft you use and any feedback. Cheers gents.

Eddy,
The 26mm knot and the 50mm loft make for an ideal face lathering brush. My only shavemac (note that shavemac is written with a small "s") is the 167, a 25mm silvertip with about a 55mm loft, a brush I love. With it, I can face or bowl lather. I dislike the shavemac DO1 brushes, as I find the tips too scratchy, although other gentlemen love them.

Depend on whether, as Obie noted above you want scritch, or soft. I have a D0-1 two band in 24x50 and the backbone/scritch was so substantial that I figured it might be too much of a good thing. So I went for the same model in a 26x52, figuring that it might mellow it out a bit, and I was right.
Meanwhile with use the 24x50 has become quite nice. Both are really nice to use, if you like scritch. If not get the regular 2 band. I think in that case Obie hit the nail on the head,Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

With Obie's help I have already gotten a 2 band thater that is nice and soft. This brush I wanted something with more scritch. The brush I started with is a plain badger about 24/60 and I would like to get something with more of this kind of face feel. It's a course hair but the high loft lends it some softness. Thanks for your replies. All input is appreciated

Go to the Shavemac brush configurator, and you can choose loft, knot diameter, handle type & length. A 52mm loft with a 26mm knot in a D0-1 two band will give you the scritch for sure. Shaving Brush Configurator 170 - Shavemac

A Shavemac D-01 2-Band Bulb knot in 26 x 50mm might be a tad scritchy/scrubby for you. A Fan knot would make it more pleasant on the face.
However, if you really like a scrubby brush, then a Bulb knot would be fine.
If this is your first experience with this specific type of hair, you may want to go with a Fan knot in 26 x 52mm.
I have a 29 x 52mm Bulb that I find quite pleasant. The scrub is very noticeable, but enjoyable.
Good luck.Laughter, Love, & Shaving

Forgot to mention, my aforementioned Shavemac D0-1 two bands are both fans. Still quite scritchy. If I was going to go with a bulb I might even increase the loft of 54-55. If it was me I mean, YMMV.
As I've read in an article on brushes on the web, nowadays brush makers such as Simpson, Shavemac, maybe others, are doing a fan that is a compromise between a true fan and a bulb. So their fans are not quite as flattened as the old ones were. I find it to be the best of both worlds.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have two D01-2 bulbs both set at 23 x 48 and they are superb, a Jade handle and MikeB52 was kind enough to replace the knot in my Walleyman, super scrub and for me, doesn't get much better. The D01-2 fan knot in the Geoff Anderson Americana brush is ever so slightly less scritchy, definitely a superb brush.
The Rubberset #3 Aluminum handled brush has the D01 knot in it, and it is definitely not scritchy, it has great backbone, nicely densely packed, but just no scrub really.
Of all the brushes I've tried, these D01-2 Shavemac knots are simply perfect...I've got a couple of other vintage brush handles that will eventually get Shavemac D01-2 knots, probably another fan, and thinking I will try one of the flat knots as well.

Thanks for the replies. I have already been on the shavemac website and designed the brush which is why I am asking about loft. 56 is as high as it goes for the 26mm knot. I will get a bulb though so will get either the 54 or 56 loft. Most of my current brushes are closer to 60 so maybe 56 with the 2 band bulb might be best.
