Thread: Hand-me down...

So I hear these aren't super awesome pieces, but they were my great grandfathers and I'm still excited to have free new to me equipment. They are Barbershop brand with old fashioned luxury written underneath. I also had a hairbrained idea last night to melt some AOS sandalwood cream with the last half of my VAn der Hagen soap in a IKEA bamboo bowl. I am excited to give it a whirl tomorrow morning! If all goes well, I plan on doing the same thing in my new mug. Oh and the stand was with it too!

A suggestion, next time you want to mix some soap, get a cheese grater from Wal-Mart for about a $1.00. Grate the soap into the new bowl, mold/form it with your hands in the new dish. I don't melt/heat my soaps. Just the way I do it.

I will try the grate method, but it was late and the microwave seemed easier lol. I then tossed the bowl into the freezer it is perfectly dry today. I am really just interested to see what happens with the cream/soap mixture...

The fact that they were used by your grandfather makes them somewhat priceless.

lol I was watching it and only did 30sec then mixed in the shave cream then 20sec more. Made sure it looked well mixed then straight into the freezer. It was cool, it just turned into a pure liquid and foamed up a bit. Now it is solid in the bottom of the bowl wooohooo for no more slippery puck lol, which was my ultimate goal.

Anyone have a suggestion of a synthetic replacement knot for this brush? This one seems to be breaking down and coming unglued.

There are a bunch of outfits selling complete brushes with synthetics and they are so cheap you can just buy the whole thing and sacrifice the handle.

I know that Maggards has them (just the knot) which would eliminate the step of removing it from a handle.
