Post Maseto Extra Density 2 Band Finest Badger 24mm vs Maseto 2 Band Finest Badger 30m

    G'day SRP,

Today I received two brushes from classicshop2012 via eBay online, on the left is the Maseto Extra Density 2 Band Finest Badger 24/54mm knot and on the right is the Maseto 2 Band Finest Badger Horn 30/54mm knot see 2 image below. I give these brushes below a real good clean before I used the brush.

For some reason the 24/54mm bloom of the Extra Density 2 Band Finest Badger looks better than the 30mm on the right, I can see the 2 Band Finest Badger Horn 30/54mm knot doesn't have enough bloom and splay to allow enough flow through when face lathering. Anybody owned a Maseto Extra Density 2 Band Finest and a Maseto 2 Band Finest 30mm knot, which brush do you like best that suit you because I'm interested in you're feedback... Cheers

On the left is the Maseto Extra Density 2 Band Finest Badger 24/54mm knot vs on the right is the Maseto 2 Band Finest Badger 30/54mm knot blooming side by side.

I have a 24mm and a 30mm LS/Maseto both 55mm loft and think they are the perfect budget brush.
I find the flow through great on both.
The knot size to loft ratio will dictate the splay so the 24mm will splay more. Another thing to bear in mind is that you will need more product with the 30mm for it to perform effectively.

I don't own either brush but just wanted to say that leaving the loft the same for the two brushes with different sized knots accounts for the difference in bloom. Just as Mark has said. The much lower loft setting of the 30mm brush for it's size will make it denser with more backbone than the 24mm brush. It also will not give up it's lather as easily as the 24mm knot.

I like 2 band badger brushes and if I was in the market for another the Maseto would get a real close look. Nice looking brushes to boot too.

Yep, what they said. I dont have ether of these brushes but i do have a tight knot brush that is too dence for the loft and it takes some sork to get the soap out. Normally end up using a lot more soap than needed for the shave to get it to act properly.

I find that knots like that, work best for bowl lathering, Jerry. Seems like the knot just sucks up all the suds when face lathering. Ends up coming out around the knot cup.

For me, I have found that setting 2 band badger knots lofts to around twice the knot size works best for me. Makes for good face lathering and the odd time I bowl lather too. That gives me good backbone and good lather pass through. That would mean a 24mm knot would be set around 48mm-50mm loft. Never had a 30mm knot but I would try a loft of around 58mm-60mm on that size knot. That is for me, others may like them set differently.

Your right Mike. You can get a nice handful of lather then slap it on the face. Lol. Its a great brush but i should have not set it so deep. Set it with marine epoxy so it aint coming out!

TBH, I like mine set a bit deeper.
But then I like them a bit stiffer as well.
