For the first few passes, you may want to do a couple paint brush strokes, that seems to calm the spraying effect.
    Great tips!

I'm a firm believer in the dip method and will go a bit farther and suggest the addition of a little water when you lather for each pass. These knots don't hold water as well as a badger and for some reason I tend to be happiest when I add a bit of moisture as I go. Another suggestion is to load those knots rather aggressively. My reasoning was that if synthetics hold onto less water then they might need a bit of help holding onto the soap as well. If I load my synthetic brushes aggressively I rarely have an issue and I don't hesitate to go back to the puck if I feel like the lather could use a bit of a refresher.

To be clear, I moved to face lathering about eight months ago and rarely have any issues regardless of what brush I use. When I do have an issue it's usually with a temperamental soap or simply because I'm having one of those days where nothing seems to go quite right.

I am glad I persevered with my synthetic brush, thanks to all of the good folks above.

I am now liking my APShave Tuxedo brush a lot. If nothing else, it doesn't shed any hairs, unlike my boar and my badger. Also feels nice and soft but has decent backbone. Looks pretty neat too.

So thanks everyone for your help. I am a dipper now.
