Part of the fun of this hobby is trying different equipment for sure! At some point I am sure you will want to try a nice two band badger or some such brush just to see what it's like. But for now, enjoy your horse hair brush!

I have several Vie Long horse hair brushes and like them. A nice thing about horse hair brushes is that nothing has to be killed to make them.
One thing on a horse hair brush, they can be down right stanky in the beginning. Soaking it in a white vinegar water mixture will get rid of that - 25-50% vinegar. Soak in 20 minute increments.
Jerry, Vie Long has a travel horse hair brush for about $20. I have one and like it.

Thanked: 81I have a Vie-Long horsehair brush that I got free when I bought some old DE razors, otherwise I never would have tried one. It took me a long time to figure it out, but now I love it. Because it's pretty floppy, I find that it's pretty useless for face lathering, but with a bowl it can whip up an amazing lather. With the hard water here, tallow soaps can take a while to lather, but I find the horsehair brush to be more efficient than the badgers.

I'm glad someone brought up that the brushes can be floppy. Owning several horse hair brushes, my experience is shorter loft is better for horse hair.
I have one whose loft is 55 mm, model #12750, and it can become a little floppy. The ones that have done better for me are the 12601, 13066 and one more that is similar to the 13066, though no longer made, have been the great performers.

Floppy and Horse pretty much go together.
I don't have any Horse Shaving brushes however I have several other horse brushes and they are all very floppy. Even my shoe brush which has a loft shorter than any shaving brush except maybe the Simpson Wee Scot is floppier than I would care to use for shaving. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
