Thanked: 25New Thater Shave Brush
I recently ordered and have now received a beautiful Thater 4125/4 B Brush! What a thing of beauty! I have used it twice so far and I can tell you I absolutely love this brush. I still have and will keep my Silvertip brush I bought from Col Conk 20 plus years ago. I don't know who made my old brush. Its a fan brush about 22MM and it is as soft as mink! My new Thater is a little prickly right out of the box but even after only two shaves it is softer. It is amazing how much water this brush holds! It whips up the lather really quick and brushing it on is really nice.
For those of you thinking of buying a new brush I absolutely am in love with the Thater 4125 /4 B. It is a big brush! But I love the size, weight and feel of the larger brusher. I wish I had ordered a 5 instead of a 4 and if I ever come across a 4125/6 anywhere I'll snatch it up as well.

There is a reason folks are willing to pay more to get a brush made by one of the premier makers. Thater is one of those and they make an outstanding product no matter the model.

Thanked: 220I'm glad you like it! I use my Thayer 90% of the time. I like it better than my Simpson, which is a bit stiffer. I have also yet to have lost a bristle on the Thayer, the same can't be said for my other brushes.

Thanked: 171I have two Thäter two-band silvertips, one 4292/5 (25mm) and one 4125/2 (26mm).
After a few weeks, the latter started shedding some hairs after every shave, which I was not used to from my other German (Shavemac, Mühle and the other Thäter) brushes.
There are not many dealers and the Thäter website is hard to find and rather basic, but I sent the brush directly to Thäter in Germany, who informed me after a few weeks that I had not rinsed my brush well enough after each shave, which I found hard to believe considering the experience with my other ten silvertips in regular rotation (plus some less often used badgers, synthetics and boars), but I accepted their offer to replace the loft, as I just cannot stand shedders.
The brush came back with a new loft and has been behaving impeccably ever since, but it did somewhat dampen my enthusiasm for Thäter and I keep a weary eye out for my Thäters to see whether they develop any bad habits. So far all is well and my confidence iin Thäter is slowly returning.
My four Shavemacs are pure joy, and I also found that even if Mühle does not offer much variety in Silvertips they are reasonably priced, utterly dependable brushes that never disappoint.
At one stage I was toying with the idea of buying a Simpson, but for my taste there were too many reports of shedding and after two previous shedding experiences with (Taylor’s) rebranded Vulfixes I thought I’d better stick with the Germans.

Thanked: 25After 21 shaved with this new Thater I have yet to lose a bristle and it gets better every day. I shave every day and use the same brush.

Thanked: 25If I do get another brush it will be another Thater. Before buying the one I recently bought I had used a small silvertip no idea who made it has Col Conk logo nearly worn off. I used it for 25 years. I honestly didn’t realize how badly I needed a new brush till my wife bought me that Thater.
