    Default Bit of a Surprise

I got a bit of a surprise this morning. I have been using a Maggards 28mm SHD 2 band fan knot stuffed into a Simpsons Chubby 2 handle daily for a little over 3 weeks now. Yes, I like the knot that much and am finding it hard to use anything else at the moment.

That said, I spied a Simpsons classic 1 synthetic brush on the shelf that I had not used in a looooong time. So, for S&Gs used it this morning. Long story short was that the little Simpsons synthetic, on a single loading of Omega soap, lasted through my 4 pass shave without the need to reload any more soap. That from a 21mm bulb synthetic knot.

Relative to the reknotted brush the little Simpsons may have a little more back bone due to the springiness of the synthetic fibers and is a bit tedious to face lather with due to it's size. Nice soft tips like the reknotted brush though. I would not use the little Simpsons synthetic on a daily basis but it acquitted itself surprisingly well and is well suited as a travel brush which is what I got it for in the first place.

You learn or relearn something new every day it seems.

My Classic 1 badger was my first brush. While it's not my favorite, if I could only have one brush, this would be it. I manage to face lather just fine. I haven't bowl lathered in years; that was a pain and led me to face lathering.

Know what you mean about bowl lathering. Learned to face about 50 years ago and tried bowl lathering a few years ago when I joied the forums. Found I had not been missing much all those years.

Great to hear the little brush re-emerged and gave you that enjoyable shave Bob.

I have a few brushes with different lofts. I enjoy bowl lathering, but there are just brushes you grab in the mornings short on time and face lather with.

I'm never short of time being retired but just prefer a good old face lather. That Maggards reknot is just excellent for face lathering and I suppose would be no slouch bowl lathering either if you don't mind a short stubby handle for that.

You are welcome. If you are considering doing a reknot or building a brush, I'd really give Maggards SHD 2 band badger knots serious consideration.

What adhesive did you use to attach the knot to the handle?

This is the first reknot I have used Goop for an adhesive. Previously I have used cheap dollar store 2 part epoxy. They both seem to work so far but keep in mind I do not soak my brushes in hot water.
