Hope you will enjoy you boar brush.

I have come to appreciate that these lowly (meaning cheap) boar brushes can punch in way over their weight.

    B.

We have quite a few Italian barbers around here and all they seem to use are boar brushes.

I started on boar brushes too many years ago and have now been through badgers and synthetics. At the end of it I have come to the conclusion that I could have stayed with boar brushes and saved a lot of money. As you say, their price to performance ratio is very good. They really perform far better than their price would suggest.

Before you use a new boar brush in the morning, immerse the bristles (no need to immerse the handle) overnight in cold water. Use a cup or glass, or whatever is handy.
You only have to do it a few times, but according to an Italian barber it speeds up the process of breaking a boar brush in.
Thanks for the tip, I typically soak the tip in hot tap water while I shower. I'll try the overnight cold water for my next shave.

Ok, so the bush is definitely broken in now. Really glad I got it it makes lather really easy, controls well, and had just the right amount of stiffness and feel on my face. I'm definitely a fan.

    Glad to hear that.

Since coming back from Portugal in June, I have been using a Semogue Owners’ Club (SOC) boar brush that I had lying around for years and never used.
Using the cold water overnight treatment, the brush broke in nicely and I really like using it.

Never been much of a boar fan, but this one grew on me....

It was entirely unintentional, a Spanish online merchant that I like to use had included a small Antiga Barbearia de Bairro branded Semogue (1438?) boar brush as freebie with my order and that got me thinking about Semogue boar brushes again.

Good stuff BTW, these Portuguese Antiga Barbearia de Barrio creams, soaps, and fragrances.
Mediterranean themed scents with an old-fashioned barber shop touch.
Perform all very well and I like the scents.

Close your eyes and imagine yourself having a shave in an old-fashioned Portuguese barber shop with a gentle breeze wafting in through the open door on this sunny morning....
