Thread: SOC Taj boar brush

This is a first impression but not likely to change with further use.

I always have liked the ergonomic handle design of my wooden handled SOC 2 band badger brush and wanted to try another Semogue boar brush. Ordered the SOC Taj boar brush which has the identical handle but in resin not wood which arrived yesterday afternoon. I gave it a test lather and hung it to dry. It felt like any other new boar brush that need breaking in.

This morning I was surprised at how much nicer it felt after only on test lather. Appears like this will be the easiest and quickest boar brush to break in I have had. I used it to face lather a Wilkinson shave stick, also used for the first time, easily producing a nice slick lather. The handle design was as ergonomic as ever but being resin slightly heavier than the wooden version.

I'd say you can't go far wrong if you wanted to go a bit up scale in the boar brush line with the Semogue SOC Taj. You could save a bit by going with the Semogue SOC wooden handle version of the brush. As far as I now it has the same boar knot just in a wooden handle of the same design.

I think I am going to very happy with this brush.

Congratulations on the new brush.

After a long exodus from any kind of boar brushes, I have taken a shine to the two SOC boar brushes that I had lying around for years.

I used an old barber trick to immerse the bristles overnight in cold water before the first few shaves and was surprised how fast the two brushes broke in.

The brushes work very well, much better than I remembered from boar brushes, and make building lather from Mitchell’s Wool Fat soap a child’s play - at least with my water.

SOC white boar knots seem to be all the same, so the only difference between your and my brushes should be the handle.
I am partial to the feel of wooden handles, but have also toyed with the idea of getting one like yours.

Just coming off a week of using this brush and I like even better now. It easily creates a lovely lather and the back bone may not be quite as much as my trusted Omegas but still more than adequate. Also the quickest boar brush to break in I have had. Just a good solid performer.

A good few months have passed since I got the SOC Taj boar brush and nothing has changed between now and my initial impression. I find that I have been reaching for more and more in preference to some nice 2 band badger brushes in my rotation or the other boar and synthetic brushes for that matter. I can't say too strongly that if you are inclined to try a boar brush or add one to your existing rotation that you should give the Semogue Owners Club boar brush a try be it in the wood handled version or resin handle Taj version. I think it really is worth the extra cost to have one in your rotation.

To be honest i had never heard anything about that brand of brushes before...now i want to try one badly !!!!
