Default Brush was given as a gift. What is it?

I received this as a gift a few years ago. It seems to work, but I don't know anything else about it. I don't imagine that it was expensive or fancy, but it would be nice to at least know what kind of brush material it is.

Thanks for the input guys. There are no markings on it. I'm wondering if it was a "kit", where he purchased the knot and the handle separately and then epoxied them together himself?
