    Default Shavemac VS Rooney

Im about to make a decision on whether or not to choose a rooney or go with a shavemac... i already know what a rooney feels like... a medium is rather large, has a large knot, and the loft is like a softball... and very stiff, how are shavemac brushes? and which between the two would you recommend over the other? will be going for silvertip in either of the two...

I've never used a Shavmac but I do have a Rooney medium in finest. I think most will agree the three best brushes in the world are Plisson, Simpson and Rooney. I am very fond of mine. But in the end its a matter of what qualities you like in a brush and matching that with the brush and your wallet. All the major brands are quality brushes in the end.

yeah when it comes to the brush, money is not an object... ive already "retained" the funds for that... so, its a matter of quality... and if you say the rooney is better, ill go with the rooney

The shavemac has a reputation of being a well-built brush, the Shavemac 177 particularly seems to be popular. The similarly priced Rooney in Super gets favourable comments as well. I've used neither, but perhaps looking around these forums and other forums you might be able to find out the key differences in how they feel, and then make a decision based on that. I'm sure there are comparisons made between the two somewhere.

    Good luck!

I wouldn't say that either has the edge in terms of build quality or presentation, and therefore did not vote.

Ultimately, your decision should be made in what your looking for in the brush (like thebigspendur stated). There are noticeable differences between these manufacturers--

    • Shavemac uses the "lightbulb" shape for the hair w1hile Rooney uses the "fan" shape. This can affect the feel of the brush in use.
    • Rooney may be slightly more dense in hair than a Shavemac (this is based on my experience with my own brushes from each).
    • SHavemac has much more in terms of options for size and style than does Rooney.

So, now all you have to do is figure out which charateristics appeal to you. With that, you can make a good choice for yourself.

I can't comment on Rooney, but Bernd Blos at Shavemac has been very accommodating to some SMF gents' specific requests regarding brush construction and shape. I will say (again) that I wouldn't have considered another brush if I'd bought my (bulb) Shavemac VLB first.

I can't comment on the Rooney since I have never had one. But, I have two Shavemacs and they are super. Neither are top-shelf silver tip but both generate great lather and hold water. The smaller one, 21mm, is my favorite since it offers a better "massage" because it is more firm.
For me, there is no point in trying a different brand.

With some rare exceptions there have been few really heated or in depth discussions about brushes here. If you check out B&B and ask the same question you'll get a plethora or responses.
