For me a good shave brush has to have the right ratio of soft to prickly. I really don't have a preference between synthetic, boar or badger, it just has to feel good and produce lather.
It has to have enough backbone to load soap, soft enough to feel comfortable and just the right amount of scritch to exfoliate.
A synthetic also has ease of use.
No pre soak, quick dry time making it a great travel brush for a great price make this an all round winner for me.

I have a variety of brushes (probably like most on this forum!) but find that my least favorite is my silvertip badger. Maybe I got a bad one, but I prefer my horse hair brushes because they hold and spread the lather well and are firmer than my badger. I also like synthetics but I prefer natural brushes in general. I have a 50/50 badger/horse hair brush on order from Germany (via eBay), expected soon.

I really don't understand why badger brushes are favored by so many people.

Yep, there's something for everyone. I have never used horse hair but I know some rave about it. Damn! There goes my BAD flaring up!

I like boar because it generally has more backbone but variety is what makes life interesting.

My brother is a Chevy truck driver and I rib him a lot about how he should get a Ford and we both throw rocks at Dodge but the fact is they all do the job pretty well.

If my Dodge powers up in front of you The rocks will be thrown at you and your brother.

I agree with your original statement but just had to say this.
