Thread: Looking for a scrubby soap monster!

So, my momma has been asking me for about two weeks now what I want for Christmas/my birthday (I'm a christmas eve baby) and I've been seriously thinking about a shaving brush. The badger I currently own is great for creams, but is a bit on the floppy side for soaps.

I want something nice and scurbby... The scrubbier the better. I'd also like to take price into consideration somewhat. Don't wanna go dropping the "I'd love a Plisson!!" line on her.

So, I've heard great things about shavemac, and also the simpson chubby 1. Any other ideas?? I'm mostly interested in the shavemac, as they have an impeccable reputation for quality and value. I know Simpsons are also great brushes, but I've heard about quality control issues, and for the price they charge, I can't really justify loosing a buncha hairs.

If you like a scrubby brush, where you can feel the ends of the bristles titillate your face, I can highly recommend the Shavemac 944. It is a fine brush which is very reasonably priced and has the scritchiness that we titillatees so love. Tell Jim at Vintage Blades that Bruce sent you.

Well,I just got a Rooney style 3 Medium Finest from Jim @ Vintage Blades. It appears to fit your description of a 'scrubby monster" but I can't say how it works yet. Problem is, when I say I just got it, I mean about 2 hours ago. My plan is to turn it loose on some Mitchells in the morning....then I'll let you know. Sure is great looking and the bristles are just as promised. Soft tips with nice springy shafts.

I've also thought about the Rooney 1/1 in Super. This seems like a little gremlin!

They are also very good looking and have a good weight to them, so they don't tip over easily when you set them down. The have a great reputation among those familiar with them and great German craftsmanship.

Shavemacs are a wonderful choice they are quite dense and have good back bone for soaps. Mine works like a charm. I would look into these.

Simpson like you mention have had issues in w/ quality control. they are claiming to have resolved all issues but I would wait it out. Granted the simpson are a denser knot than Shavemacs and better for soaps

Rooneys would also be a good brush only the styles with the shorter lofts though.

IMO the Simpson brushes are just about the ugliest brushes you can buy. Function over form.

I took advantage of the dollar and talked to Bernd Blos at Shavemac to customize one of his brushes. I got myself a 21mm silvertip knot with a 45mm loft, and it cost me $87.00 + $14.00 shipping

I figure this was in the ballpark of what I'm looking for since:
The Rooney style 1/small is a 22mm knot with a 48mm loft
The Simpson Chubby is a 21mm knot with a 47mm loft
The Simpson Case is a 19mm knot with a 40mm loft

That custom Shavemac sounds great, I have a Rooney 1/1 in Super great soap brush that can be used with creams too...The Rooney has been a favorite for a while...

Just picked up a Simpson Chubby 1 in Super, I happen to like the way it looks, even better than it's looks is it's performance....a great soap brush for face lathering..

The Simpson Duke 2 is supposed to be a nice soap brush and the Duke 3 is like a Chubby 1 but with a longer handle...supposed to be a great brush for soaps and creams...

So far my Chubby 1 has lost 1 hair after several ( 3 ) uses seems to be ok so far..

Lot's of great choices out there though

I specifically ordered it for use with soaps and face lathering. Sure hope it fulfills all my dreams
