New guy with brush question
Being a Newbie I placed this in the Newbie forum. I now see that it would be more appropriate to place it here.
I have a brush that I have had for years and I inherited from my grandfather. I would like to know more about it and I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction. The brush is labeled "dubl duck, M-2, professional use only, made in Germany". The handle appears to be aluminum, and the bristles are very soft and blond to orange in color, almost like human hair. I would like to know what the bristle truly is, if it is still made today, and if there is anyone else making them. Also, can I coat the aluminum handle, or replace the handle?
Thanks in advance

Thanked: 9Hi,
It's most likely horse hair Dubl Duck brush (i.e. from a cult company) for neck, not actual lathering. Not made today. Post a photo, we'll be able to tell you more.
DD made shaving brushes too, for your good I hope that's one of them, not the one I think it may be
Cheers

Its also possible it is nylon bristle. With age many of those turn a darker color. If its a pearl Duck Model which would be 1950s or later thats probably the case. Yea if we saw a picture that would ice it.

Thanked: 9Nylon for lather (vs horse for neck) - and it has seen better days. Try it out, tell us how it works

I don't think I would use that brush on my horse. Do your self a favor and get a new brush even if its an Omega Boar for a few bucks. relegate that one to the display shelf. Its served with distinction over time.

Already warped :)
Gentlemen, thanks for you sage advice and assistance with my question. This would explain why I can't enjoy any of these other brushes. As I mentioned, this one has been in my family and a part of my shaving routine for years. I can't help but compare all others to it. It may be worn, scuffed, and intended for other uses but, I love it. It is the softest thing I have tried and it never pokes or stabs me with a bristle. Using a boar bristle brush feels like waking up to a joust each morning compared to this brush. I was always confused by how the directions for other brushes talked about how much water you should leave in the brush when this one could hold twice as much. I had to learn to ignore convention and do what I felt was right. I will have to try one of the fancy silver tip brushes some day. Atleast I don't have to figure out what length of handle fits me best, as this one seems to be just right. Again, thanks for the help.
