Savile Row
Just curious if anyone knows anything about the Savile Row 23-0. I've looked for reviews all over the net and can't find anything.
I'm particularly interested in what it's good at: creams, soaps, both?
Thanks!
I found the brush here:

Can't say much about this particular brush but a lot of guys swear by their Savile Rows. I bought my Dad one of their inexpensive pure brushes - I gotta say, it was awesome. The brush had great face feel and seemed much larger than the knot and low price ($28 !!) would indicate. It works great with creams and soaps.

Thanked: 351Most of those brushes, if not all, are Vulfix made brushes. These are not what Charles at QED is now offering and I can't offer any insight as to how the Savile Row brand came about and or who actually owns it. The new Savile Row brushes that Charles sells are as far as I know, only available from QED and are very nice but they are not cheap brushes. I've got one and it's excellent.

I use a SR3118 and it works very well with both soaps and cremes the newer(?) numbering system has the first two numbers denoting the handle style and the last two the knot size. Thus my "little bambino" ( no I didn't make up the name) is a #31 handle and a 18 mil knot. I have to say I like the brush a bunch whomever made it. It shed one hair one the first day and no one more since. The current lineup from QED has a pick on his "other fabulous toiletry page".

I have the SR-3318 and it is an excellent small brush. I think it will make a perfect travel brush.

I believe that is a fairly new style that they came out with recently, hence not much info on it.
I have a 3228, 28mm knot and it is a great brush, I would expect these to be nice performers as well.

The one I bought was from Charles. I know of one other place to get them - SestoSenso.com or whatever - but I have never heard that Saviles are made by Vulfix. I have heard speculation that they are made by Shavemac. Not saying that you're wrong because I don't know for sure but I can say that the Vulfix that I have is absolutely nothing like the Savile I bought for my dad. To me, the Savile was tons better and very similar to my Shavemac. Unless this is a new relationship with Vulfix that I haven't heard about, I think it's probably not the case. AFAIK Charles is THE guy behind Savile Row. If you don't see the brush you want (his website is notoriously out of date), he is very helpful and responsive to get what you need.

Thanked: 351Well, those brushes at SestoSenso.com are old stock, not the same as what Charles is now selling. If you check Charles' original Savile Row page you will see (besides everything is out of stock) that those brushes are different from the current 3xxx (4 digit) models. In the past he had the 1xx and 2xx series and it was speculated that they were made by Kent. If you compare the pictures of the SR-208 to the older Kent pure badger brush in tortoise you would see it was a dead ringer except for the higher quality hair in the Savile Row. Similar hair is found in the BK series from Kent. Now... before the 1xx and 2xx series of SR brushes there were other and these were the same as you see on the Sesto site. If you compare their handles to a Vulfix catalog you'll see once again that they are dead ringers. This is quite common in the shaving brush industry, a maker will often make brushes for other sellers with their chosen branding on them. Case in point, Simpson brushes sold at Cambridge Chemists are branded "John Bull". Lee's Safety Razors has a new series of brushes made by Vulfix with Lee's name , ditto for Crabtree & Evelyn with Edwin Jagger brushes etc.... lots of re-branding going on.
Anyway, I highly recommend the current 3xxx series of Savile Row brushes as sold by Charles at QED. Who actually makes them is anyones guess, Charles is not saying but again, if you compare the handles and the delightful bulb shaped hair to whats in the Shavemac catalog.... well, lets just say that those who own both cannot tell a difference between the two brands in use. As for the SestoSenso brushes.... if you like Vulfix brushes, pehaps there's a bargain to be had.... I personally have only had one Vulfix brush and I was not particularly impressed but that brush could have been a bit off as it happens now and then.
I hope this clears things up a wee bit.

I had this thing in my shopping basket at Amazon, which I do from time to time so I can go back and look at something without having to remember. Don't ask me why I just don't use the wish list to do the same thing, but I started doing it before they even had a wish list, and old habits...
So I'm buying a Valentine's Day gift for my wife on my BlackBerry at Amazon, and this brush is in my basket. Unfortunately, I didn't catch it, and now I have one and am trying to send it back. It's a Vulfix. Same handle, same packaging, even down the the pink box and care sheet. I'd keep it, but I just don't like really soft (read floppy) brushes.Last edited by TULIP; 01-28-2008 at 11:44 PM.

Bummer the 3118 and from what I've heard the rest of the current line is NOT floppy. A touch soft and a bit scritch is what I would say. I have a Kent BLK4 thats a bit of a flop mop but's nice with the creme....
