Hot water goes into the bottom of the scuttle and the top section is used to make your lather and subsequently keep it warm while you shave. They're super nice but you're like me, get the biggest you can find, because many are too small.

If its a Moss scuttle, the top bowl isnt really intended to make lather in. The top bowl is more about keeping the lather/brush warm

+1. Even the large Moss Scuttle is too small to create lather in. It is meant to be a pretty snug fit for the brush in it so that the brush and lather in the brush stay warm.

Try the Super Scuttle by Ansgar. http://www.schwarzweisskeramik.de/enindex.html

He is here under "Oskar"... that will allow you to make lather in the scuttle. Oh... and the thing is HUGE! This is a picture that Taz put up back in the day. The Moss Scuttle is in blue, the Super Scuttle is in white/grey/black.

I have one ordered from Classic, with monogramming. Since I have no middle name, it'll just be my first name, "Tam."

Is there an extra cost for monogramming?
