Sorry your right I worded that wrong. I meant to say there is a
custom brush maker on ebay whose craftsmanship looks similar to
those two photos that Tulip had posted.

I ordered a brush from Dan a few days ago and will post pics when I get it. He actually uses the same brush knot supplier that Simpson does.

Hey, nice forum! Well, I've been following this discussion a bit, and thought I should clarify the above statement. So, I joined up to chime in.

I am told by my supplier that he can provide me with the same brush knots as Simpsons knots. He implied that he has made them or makes them now. That said, I have not talked with Simpsons about their supplier and so I can not confirm the statement from them.

So that's what I know about Simpsons. I do know the quality of my knots (for which I specify the characteristics and have them custom made), and I think they are very good -- for what that's worth!

    Dan,

Welcome to the forum, we need the likes of you around here! I've been looking at your brushes for a while now... As soon as I can get the wife to "surprise" me with a new one I'll be pointing her in your direction.

Now that we have a custom brush maker, I think its time to start thinking about a annual custom SRP Brush... I KNOW we can do better than those guys at the "other" sites...

Oh, and by the way, I will jump on the hand grenade of personally testing each and every prototype until we get just the right one...
I know, I know what you're thinking...and yes, it is mighty big of me, but what can I say, thats just the kind of guy I am.

    Thanks Dan,

It's very nice of you to join and clarify. I think I'd like to see one of the people who have ordered post their impressions compared to Simpsons. I'm sure the supplier at least feels the density is as good as a Simpson, or they wouldn't be wording it this way. And in any case I very much doubt that Simpson will reveal their supplier.

Yes, I agree. Keep in mind that whether or not the supplier is the same, I have also not said "match the Simpsons" so any similarity is coincidental anyway. My goal in posting was to avoid the potential for a comparison "discussion" or a misunderstanding about what I believe about my brushes.

Since I make the brushes as a hobby, my goal is to make brushes that people enjoy. I'm glad that many people seem to like them. I do make a little money, which is just reinvested in the hobby. But I have no problem leaving the big bucks and critical successes to the Simpons of the brush world.

    Best regards,

    Dan

Sorry Dan if I caused any confusion! Welcome by the way!

Gugi, Amyn posted his impressions on a brush of Dan's when he got it HERE

His knot (correct me if I'm wrong Dan) was not the "normal" knot, but a special knot that Dan can get and his impression of it as compared to Simpson's was, and I quote:

" Density equivalent to the Chubby (no seriously) "
