Thread: Another beautiful Dan Capshaw brush

Good afternoon Gentlemen!
May I present the latest brush created by Dan Capshaw? It arrived here yesterday. The first two photos are from yesterday, showing the brand new brush, the other two showing the brush after the first use. Isn't it gorgeous? BTW, the knot is 28mm, my favorite size, the handle is Cocobolo wood.

Is this the one he has shown in the back of his pickup on his website? Looks six foot tall in the bed of his truck. Super badger!

That's a very nice looking brush. 28mm is way too big for my taste, but to each his own, right? The handle looks super, though. Do you know where he gets his brush knots?

I'm not sure. You may want to ask him. This one I supplied. I bought it here. This is most likely one of Dan's suppliers as well. Next time I'd do a one stop shopping at Dan's. Much easier. The knot is a very nice one though, the perfect match to this wonderful handle. I was surprised how heavy this wood is!

28mm too big? Well, it depends on what you're used to have. When I got my 25mm silvertip, I thought it was huge. After using its big brother which measures 29mm for a while, the 25mm feels now like a Bonsai brush to me. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 28mm is just right for my taste, and also close to the limit of what I'm willing to spend. ;-)

Was this your original design, Amyn? I picked mine from his online photo exhibition. The only difference I can see, apart from the size maybe, is the top part near the knot, which is more tapered in my case.

Holy gazot, that's elegant! I don't think that brush would let me be in the same room with it.

Yes, this is one of Amyn's designs. Very nice!

The difference between the two may be the overall handle length and the way I interpreted the handle curves as I cut on that particular day. Sometimes I tend towards the more rounded shape, sometimes the more tapered shape. I don't know why that is, but it is. The knot size is the same, though the loft may be a bit different.

It's odd how personal preferences can differ so much. My first brush was a Vulfix 377 with a 26mm knot, and nowadays that thing seems really really big ... I much prefer my Rooney Beehive with it's tiny, tight knot.

Although I must say I'm suprised how much more most brush companies charge for their larger brushes ... it must take about the same effort to make the small and big brushes, and the material can't cost all that much ... makes me kind of glad I like the small brushes ... I guess I'm a "cheap drunk"
